There was a wonderful era when great male saloon singers proliferated. A few, like Tony Bennett and Jack Jones, are still performing (magnificently) today, but most are gone—The Rat Pack (Frank, Dean, Sammy, etc.), Andy Williams, John Gary, Matt Monro, Al Martino, Vic Damone, Nat King Cole, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin … to name a few.
And I miss them.
Occasionally, a Pop, Rap or Rock 'n' Roll star will record a saloon standard and get it right—like Glenn Frey's "The Shadow of Your Smile"—but it's rare.
None-the-less, I refuse to accept that the musical "good ol' days" are all behind us.
I think it is possible to honor our musical past while also celebrating our musical "today."
My own act pays homage to the aforementioned singers—and others—but with contemporary arrangements, topical storytelling and, hopefully, authenticity and originality. I don't strive to recreate an era—you can never be better than the original—but I do believe in building upon our musical past ... and creating our OWN era in the process.
Thank you for visiting my website and blog, and I look forward to our song-filled journey together!

Performances of the Great American Songbook plus Latin, Brazilian and other jazz standards. And the audience always becomes a part of the show!
"For me, performing is about one thing: Making an audience feel better because they attended your show."
Greg Purdy
A musical career spanning four decades with a show orchestrated by renowned arranger, conductor and guitarist, Joe Lano.
Recorded and videotaped at Horse Latitudes Recording Studio in Glendale, CA on August 30, 2018 and September 21, 2018.
Clips of the Greg Purdy Show arranged and conducted by Joe Lano with special guest star Nadia Smelser (nee Contaldo). This was shot back in the early '90s during the summer at Palmer CableVision in Palm Desert, California. It was a fun afternoon, but we had to turn the air conditioner off during the actual taping, so it was HOT!!!
